However, stick to two wheels when using a bike as a mode of transport, for example as an alternative to the car or to complement public transport. The new CycloCity system set-up by the Brussels City authorities is perfect for such cases. Via a subscription or credit card, you can use one of the 250 bikes parked at 23 terminals, 24/7 – and there's only about 300 metres between each terminal! The advantage is that you can pick-up the bike at one terminal and leave it at another… This really practical system would be even better if it covered all 19 communes.
Pro Velo
Pro Velo started out in 1992 as Brussels' cyclists wanted to join forces. Their main goal was to help the government with cycle infrastructure and promote cycling with different activities: since 1994 tourists can discover the beauty of the city by bike, while the cycle school project teaches people (especially children) to cycle (again).
Discovering a city by bike not only lets you enjoy the cycling itself, but also leads you into hidden spots, riding through small streets far away from the car-infested main streets. Starting from Art Nouveau, through the greens of the North up to Comic Strips, Pro Velo has 11 themes to let you discover the city. You needn't be a sportsman/woman to join us: it's family entertainment .
